About the Borden's
From our ohana to yours….
The Borden’s were a very close-knit family. Brothers and sisters thoroughly enjoyed each other’s company. They would frequently help each other, celebrate one another’s milestones, and even enjoy a few beverages from time to time. On one such evening, brothers Dennis and Glenn shared with their siblings, Joseph (Bully), Henry, and LeRoy an idea they had been tossing around. They saw a lucrative future in the garbage business. The five brothers were themselves, industry leaders.
Glenn was a state worker, Joseph (Bully) was a contractor, Henry worked for the Ranch, Dennis worked for the county and LeRory worked for Roberts Hawaii. With their various contacts and some assistance from Bunky Gannon of Maui Disposal, the five brothers started Island Refuse in 1984. Starting with second-hand equipment– a single hand front load garbage truck and eight 3 yard rubbish bins and assistance from the entire family, the Bordens built Island Refuse Inc. We are proud of the respectable company it has become and will strive to make it better for generations to come.
